Mud slides and floods have cut off all land connections to parts of Sogndal in Southwest Norway over the weekend. On Sunday evening, authorities warned inhabitants for the possible evacuation of the central parts of Balestrand, a settlement of about 1,500 people.

Earlier about a dozen people were evacuated from the Ullensvang area, where 22 mud, land and ice slides were reported in a short time. The municipality of Suldal was for some time no longer reachable by road, but Sunday afternoon emergency services were able to reopen one of them.

Norwegian authorities fear more trouble is on its way, with large areas in and around Stavanger, Bergen and south of Trondheim possibly affected. There is a general advice not to travel in these areas. | © 2023 Marcel Burger, nordicreporter.com
