On 2 October, Poland signed a first agreement to connect the Central European country to NATO’s fuel pipeline system that is meant for military purposes.

It will still need a couple of years and likely construction of new pipelines before Poland is officially connected, but plans are for Poland to join NATO’s Central Europe Pipeline System (CEPS) with the current owners the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France and Germany. Once online, Polish and NATO forces in Poland could get their fuel directly from, e.g., fuel refineries at the North Sea harbour hubs of Rotterdam or Antwerp.

Poland will also commit to building fuel storage facilities for NATO troops in its country, and will get NATO funds to help expedite it all. Poland has some key fuel hubs as well, with the port city and oil industry of Gdańsk as the most essential location. | © 2025 Marcel Burger, nordicreporter.com.
