The Danish police will start using relatively big fixed-wing drones to enhance the border security. The drone of German manufacturer Globe, with a wingspan of 3 metres (9.8 feet) and a weight of 25 kilograms (55.1 pnds), will be based in Padborg. This is situated on the German border and includes the main E45 highway connecting Scandinavia with Germany.
The drone is unarmed, but has a camera for observation. The propeller is powered by electric engines. The Syd- & Sønderjyllands Politi is the first police force in Denmark fielding such a drone, and it wants to use it alongside the entire border with Germany. It supports the border controls reinstated by Denmark in 2023.
The news of the police drone comes at a time when Denmark has been plagued by invasive drones that were sighted above civil and military airfields, and near other military bases. The Danish government has still not confirmed where those drones came from. | © 2025 Marcel Burger, nordicreporter.com.
