Alex Karp, the tech billionaire behind the AI company Palantir has bought about 15,000 hectares of land in the Storsjö Kapell area of the municipality of Berg in the northern Swedish region of Jämtland. Regional newspaper Tidningen Härjedalen reported this on 26 September.
According to the media report Karp is the point man for Cladonia Skog AB (skog is Swedish for forest or forestry), a new company that is the buying party of the piece of land. Karp is also co-founder and CEO of Palantir, the offers AI-decision and analysis solutions to militaries, security services and police forces. The company has got a lot of criticism for the sloppy way it handles personal data; some say it crosses privacy and personal integrity rules.
The piece of land in Swedish Jämtland apparently has been sold by established forestry company SCA, Swedish-based Europe’s largest private forestry company, for EUR 21 million. According to the reports, Cladonia will continue with the forestry operations of the newly-bought piece of land. | © 2026 Marcel Burger, nordicreporter.com
