A Russian drone hit the popular Kyiv (Ukraine) – Warsaw (Poland) train only two kilometres (1.24 miles) from the Polish border in the morning of 13 September 2026. A truck heading for Poland only 800 metres (half a mile) from the Polish border was also hit by a Russian drone.
The train crew was warned of the Russian drone strike and as far as first reports go, nobody was physically hurt when the drone hit the locomotive. In an unverified video shared on X passenger are seen fleeing from the train stopped at a platform when the drone flies over and an explosion is seen.
Both Polish and Ukrainian officials have condemned the Russian drone attacks. The operational command of the Polish Armed Forces confirmed that the NATO country activated its air defence and reconnaissance assets, but that Polish aerospace was not violated this time. However, in some areas of two Polish provinces bordering Ukraine, residents were warned by air-raid sirens in the night, Polish media report on Sunday. In other parts of Poland, air-raid sirens can be heard a bit more often these days, as emergency services are running response drills to possible threats. | © 2026 Marcel Burger, nordicreporter.com.
