The southern Swedish municipality of Kristianstad (Skåne) ran out of drinking water during the Midsummer weekend, marking that drinking water shortages are no longer a problem of countries elsewhere in the world.
However, the shortage was relatively local, concerning about 500 inhabitants in the southern parts of Kristianstad who get their water supply from the Friseboda water works. Already before summer, the local government requested its citizens in to limit their water consumption, also in the other parts of the municipality.
To Swedish media, the municipal spokesperson confirmed that people used more water than could be produced. The local authorities provided alternative drinking water at collection points in the area. | © 2025 Marcel Burger, nordicreporter.com.
