The Polish government has allocated EUR 54 million to support what it is calling a “the world’s largest factory for offshore monopiles”. The plant is to be built in Northern Poland by Spanish Windar Renovables, and i it supposed to supply the pillars on which wind turbines are installed for Poland’s offshore wind ambitions.

The island of Ostrów Grabowski in the harbour of Szczecin has been designated as the spot for the 17-hectares big factory. Here up to 500 pillar sections annually, with diametres up to 10 metres (about than 33 feet), are expected to leave the factory premises in the near future. According to a statement, that will equal about 100 complete monopiles.

The factory is expected to cost a total of EUR 207 million and is said to create 500 full-time jobs. Danish well-known wind turbine manufacturer Vestas is building an assembly plant close by for another 700 jobs.

Poland’s offshore wind ambitions

Poland is planning to begin operating its first offshore wind turbines of a 1.2-gigawatts-wind farm in the Baltic Sea next year, run by a joint venture of Polish state-owned company Orlen and Northland Power of Canada. The size of the plan puts Poland immediately in the front of the offshore wind farm league, with other wind farms typically below 1 gigawatt in installed power capacity. Since 2022, the 1.3-gigatwatss Hornsea 2 – off the coast of Yorkshire, United Kingdom – is the biggest wind farm at sea in the world. | © 2025 Marcel Burger, nordicreporter.com.
