UPDATED 11 FEBRUARY 2025 | The semi-autonomous parliament of Greenland is expected to quickly block foreign money to political parties, during a meeting on 4 February. The sudden law change, proposed by the current government of the island nation, is a direct reaction to Donald Trump’s recent pressure to take the island “by economic or military means” if necessary.

With the law change, which was quickly adopted on the 4th, the Greenland government wanted to safeguard free upcoming parliamentary elections. The law change includes a prohibition on foreign subsidies to local parties, youth parties as well as members of parliament and the government.

The elections have now been set for 11 March 2025. | © 2025 Marcel Burger, nordicreporter.com
