The year 2025 starts violently in Sweden. During a press conference in Stockholm on 29 January, the Swedish police say they have registered 30 attacks with explosive devices in January alone. Meaning: more than one detonation per day. Most of the incidents took place in the suburbs of Southern Stockholm.
“We witness an escalation of violence, but also a change. The majority of the bombings we saw in December and January have economic incentives, acts aimed at companies and often for the purpose of blackmail,” says Hampus Nygårds, Deputy Head of the National Operational Unit (Noa) of the Swedish Police.
“Under age of 15 has increased dramatically”
Deputy Police Chief of the Stockholm Region, Tobias Bergkvist, adds: “The number of young people under the age of 15 who are prepared to take on this type of paid violence has increased dramatically.” The high-ranking police officers say that lately at least 50 individuals have been arrested in 25 cases. They include those who are executing the bombings, those who are preparing the bombs and criminals abroad who manage or order the attacks. Yet, the bombings continue. | © 2025 Marcel Burger, nordicreporter.com. Photo of a Swedish police Volvo XC70 in Uppsala, 2009, by Per Enström (CC)
