French energy company Oxan has won the bidding for a 900-megawatt wind farm off the coast of Latvia, the Latvian authorities announced on 23 January 2025.

Named Saare 1, the offshore wind farm will be situated 60 kilometres (37 miles) west of Estonia’s largest island, Saaremaa. Oxan will install up to 60 wind turbines, in waters up to 85 metres (279 feet) deep, over an area of 88 square kilometres.

Latvia has also found a developer for two other wind offshore wind farms, Saare 2.1 and 2.2, in the area, but with a tender for Saare 3 the country has come up empty-handed. | © 2025 Marcel Burger, nordicreporter.com. Press photo: Oxan Energy
