The export of aluminium goods from Finland to Russia has doubled in a year time, according to the Finnish Customs. From 2023 to autumn 2024, the value has increased from EUR 11.3 million to EUR 22.3 million. Finnish national broadcasting company Yle points at one particular business responsible for the increase.
Tikka Spikes, Scason and Turvanasta are the main aluminium producers and exporters in Finland, Yle reports. And as the first and second say they do not deliver goods to Russia, the finger is pointed at Turvanasta as the sole responsible for the increase of aluminium goods to Putin’s nation. In a reaction to Yle, the company says it has no control of where its clients send the delivered goods to.
Not all aluminium export to Russia is banned
Note that not all aluminium products are banned on the EU sanction’s list, e.g. spikes for winter tyres are excluded. However, politicians and the public have often called upon the morale of companies doing business with Russia since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. According to Yle, in Finland the number of companies exporting to Russia has decreased from 925 in 2021 to 45 this year. | © 2024 Marcel Burger.
