On 5 November 2024, a court in Malmö, Sweden, has sentenced the Danish politician Rasmus Paludan to four months in jail, for incitement against an ethnic group in Sweden in 2022. The Danish provocateur burned a Quran and made statements only aimed at publicly offending Muslims, the court rules.
Chairman of the Court, Nicklas Söderberg says to Swedish broadcasting company SVT that Paludan’s actions went far beyond the freedom of speech. “Talking for three hours about the prophet Muhammad’s made-up sex habits and wrapping a Quran in bacon, playing football on it, spitting on it, making fun of it,” the Chairman sums up the offence.
According to Swedish and Danish media, the “politician” will appeal. Paludan’s incitements led to various mass protests and riots in Sweden. | © 2024 Marcel Burger, nordicreporter.com. Featured photo: Cezary Piwowarski (CC)
