On 19 June, Estonia signed the contract with KNDS of France for the delivery of 12 Caesar self-propelled howitzers on a 6×6-wheeled vehicle. The first half is expected to arrive this year, with the remaining batch in 2025.
The Caesar is a mobile gun of 155 millimetres in diameter. The dozen new artillery pieces will equip the new third self-propelled artillery battalion of the Estonian armed forces. The other two battalions are each equipped with 12 South Korean-made K9 Thunder tracked self-propelled 155-millimetre howitzers.
For its air defences, Estonia is teaming up with France, Belgium, Hungary and Cyprus to procure more Mistral short-range air defence missile system, which is already in use by the Estonian Defence Forces since 2009. Also this system is made in France, by MBDA. | © 2024 Marcel Burger, nordicreporter.com. Press photo by KNDS
